Vista Civil Engineering have a great opportunity for a strategic and results driven Commercial Manager to join our expanding business, in our Tring office. However, the candidate we are looking could also be an Estimator or Quantity Surveyor who is dynamic, forward thinking and is ready to take the next step in their career.

As a Commercial Manager for Vista Civil Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the commercial aspects of our infrastructure projects, including contract management, procurement, and financial performance. In conjunction with these aspects of the job role, you will also liaise with clients on new and continuous projects at the various stages. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial management, exceptional negotiation skills, and a proven track record of delivering successful projects within budgetary constraints.

Role and Responsibilities:

Required to be on call when needed.

  • Oversee the commercial aspects of the infrastructure works projects from inception to completion, ensuring we are adhering to the contractual obligations and financial objectives.
  • Manage the commercial team and provide support / guidance where necessary.
  • Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documents to understand project requirements and constraints.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors and suppliers, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating terms and conditions to mitigate risks and maximize profitability.
  • Develop and maintain high-level communication with subcontractors and clients.
  • Working to deadlines to ensure we meet our client’s needs.
  • Utilise industry-standard estimating software and tools to prepare accurate cost estimates, ensuring compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
  • Monitor project budgets and financial performance, analysing variances and implementing corrective actions as needed to ensure projects remain on track financially.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers and other stakeholders to develop accurate cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts for projects.
  • Conduct regular financial reporting and analysis to provide stakeholders with insights into project performance, including profitability, cash flow and risk exposure.
  • Provide guidance and support to project teams on commercial matters, including contract interpretation, and dispute resolution.

Environment and Working Hours

  • The office is an open-plan environment, with secure parking on-site
  • Company core office hours are 8.30 am until 5.00 pm (4:30pm on Fridays)

Person Requirements:

  • HNC, HND, Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration or related field.
  • Proven experience as an Estimator, Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager in the Civil Engineering or Construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of contract law, procurement practices and commercial management principles.
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and resolve disputes effectively.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting, with the ability to interpret financial data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to uphold ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism in all aspects of work.
  • UK Driving License.
